Skater fashion 2011

Skaters have long held a reputation for wearing hooded jumpers and baggy jeans. They have also had the preconception placed upon them that they do not fit with your so called fashionable person. This is all changing with some high profile celebrities pictured in public wearing clothes that are more accustomed to skaters. Drake, Rihanna and Dappy are three high profile singers that have been seen wearing skater fashion.

The skaters clothing is predominantly defined by the requirement to be outside and the practical benefit of covering up to avoid nasty cuts and scrapes when tricks go wrong. Skaters fashion sense has changed very little since the early days of the sport in the 80’s and was taken up a notch when the sport reinvented itself in the 2000’s. The colours became louder and bespoke images and motifs were applied to the front of clothing.

The fashion industry has been quick to spot trend towards skaters clothing this and many have released traditional skate wear for the general public. The fashion label Huf which is owned by Keith Hufnagel have released a range of traditional skaters clothing in non-traditional sizes to fit all shapes of people. Gucci and Alexander McQueen have also jumped on board and released clothing ranges to compete.
