Dragonslayer the Story of Josh “Skreech” Sandoval

2011 has seen the release of dragon slayer which is a film based on Josh “Skreech” Sandoval. The professional skater was a top skater before going absent for several years. The documentary film starts with Josh’s return to the sport. The documentary follows the pro skater through a period of self destructive behaviour where he spends days at a time totally wasted. He has no goals or ambition and simply wanders around taking in sights and views of the US.

Josh has no fixed abode in the documentary film other than a tent that is pitched in various fields and friends gardens. The skater wipes out more often than he completes a full routine as he battles to regain some of the confidence that he once had performing great tricks.

The film is the first from the director, Tristan Patterson and is a great piece of impression work. Tristan follows Josh through an emotional time featuring Josh’s girlfriend Cagy and some brilliant camera work to capture some skating shots. The film shows images of Josh from an early age as well as him now rolling around in open top cars and skating empty swimming pools. Josh has been through a lot of personal demons in his life and the director catches these moments from the past beautifully in personal direct interview shots.

One Response to Dragonslayer the Story of Josh “Skreech” Sandoval

  1. Hey there,

We’re promoting the digital release of the SXSW award-winning skateboard documentary, Dragonslayer. It looks like you guys have already done some coverage on the film, but now that it’s out on iTunes and will soon be available on VOD, we’re trying to get the word out about its widespread availability.

In case you’ve forgotten, Dragonslayer is the portrait of southern California skateboarding legend Josh “Skreech” Sandoval set to a soundtrack from indie-rock labels Mexican Summer and Kemado Records — including Dungen, Thee Oh Sees, Jacuzzi Boys, and many more. A master of skating abandoned pools, broken-down skate parks, and random pick-up competitions, Skreech is a guy who lives outside the bounds of mainstream suburban life with a gang of outcasts that are his makeshift family. In addition to the kick-ass soundtrack, the film features beautifully-shot skateboarding footage of Skreech and other skating icons.

If you’re willing to help promote its digital release, we can provide footage for your site (potentially even the first few minutes of the film) as well as giveaways, podcasts with cast and crew members, and anything else you think would appeal to your readers.

    Sincerely,
    Nathan Silver
