New High-Tech Braking System for Skateboards Released by Australian company Brakeboard

A new foot braking system for skateboards has been released by Brakeboard, a company based in Australia. This was especially designed for long boards. Long boards have risen immensely in popularity as of late in the world of skateboarding. This is the first internal foot brake in the world. Brakeboard has truly broken ground with the release of this mechanism. While this development is sure to attract even more people to long boarding, nobody will be happier than parents with the addition of this safety mechanism. Now there is no need to panic when seeing their child skate downhill.

When it comes to the components of the Brakeboard system, there are matching front and rear axles as well as brake mechanisms in the rear axle. It is very easy to fit the kit onto an existing long board. Brakeboard also offers long boards that are already fully assembled with the kit. It all depends on your preference. The system utilizes a foot pedal which riders press their body weight upon to control speed or stop the board completely. One can only hope that more developments come from companies for the safety and convenience of skateboarders around the world.

Complications arise with construction of downtown skateboard park

It seems that the goal to build a skateboard park in Saranac Lake has encountered a number of complications. Initially, the plan of the village Board of Trustees was to put up the skate park between Community Bank and Twin D automotive. The skate park is designed to take up 7,000+ square feet. This means compromising at least six parking spaces.

However, a discovery was recently made indicating that building the skateboard park on the site would actually only allow for 5,200 feet. This is insufficient for a decent skateboard park. Village trustee Barbara Rice released a statement saying that these constraints were not taken into consideration before. At present, the construction and discussion of the skateboard has been postponed by the board. This is because the board realizes that they will need intelligent discussion and want to go about it the proper way. All around the country, the construction of skateboard parks is on the rise as people understand that it is a more favourable outlet and more beneficial activity than staying indoors all day and playing video games. Here’s to hoping that the plans to put up the skateboard park in Saranac Lake pan out!

Today, there’s no end to the size, color and design of the sculptures he has formed. Some of these include Airwalk sneakers, skateboarding cats, skulls, demons, and more. Haroshi says that it takes him a lot of time to craft and construct each piece which is why he has only come up with around 40 pieces. Some of the instruments that Haroshi uses are a sander, Japanese carving instruments, and chisels. He also applies laminates to the wood at times to produce a variety of finishes. It cannot be denied that despite having no formal training, Haroshi has seen success. His work has displayed in galleries in Tokyo, London and New York.

Skateboard Ministry Coming to Africa

While skateboards are all the rage as of late and have been popular for several decades now, it looks like the trend is now going to reach Africa. A 19 year old named Justice Kellenberger from St. John’s United Methodist Church will be heading there next week with his mom and a team of dentists for outreach purposes. Justice Kellenberger is currently involved with a skateboarding ministry at his church that aims to reach the youth in the city. He feels that God wants him to take this to Africa. He wants to teach the sport to orphans in Kimondo, Kenya. He also hopes to be able to use the skateboard as an instrument to connect young children to God and the Bible. It is his belief that children are more receptive to listening to him if he has something that they like or want to use.

Art used as a medium by skateboard park in an effort to rebuild Detroit

Dubbed as the Ride It Sculpture Park, the structure was opened to the public last summer and it is located off the Davison Freeway. Several prominent artists such as Mitch Cope, 2012 ArtPrize winners, Kresge fellows, and Gina Reichert were all central to the construction of this park. Auctions were ale to raise up to $275,000 for the construction of the skateboard park all for one purpose: to rebuilt the distressed streets of Detroit.

Lately there has been an exodus of residents in the neighbourhood and the goal is to attract new residents by increasing the stability of the area. The skateboard park was also put up in an effort to make it more interesting to prospective residents. By next year, the park will boast sculptures by local artists and more greenery. While it will obviously take more than a skateboard park to revive the area, leaders in the area believe that providing a place where young people can converge is a significant step in the right direction. Prior to Ride It Sculpture Park, the area used to be occupied by drunks and bums.

Plan to Build Northfield Skateboard Park Site Approved by Council

In a unanimous vote by members of the Northfield City Council, a plan was approved to put up a skateboard park close to Riverside Park. $60,000 to be funded by the city is going to be used for the development of the park. There is a second option if Riverside proves to be unsuitable for the construction of the park: Old Memorial Park. Board members raised issues such as noise, funding and safety. One resident was concerned about the safety of skateboards that will be using the park in the future. Other residents brought up noise levels.

However, majority of residents believe that the skateboard park will be beneficial overall to the community. All across America, the number of skateboard parks continues to rise given the growing popularity of the activity. It is a welcome alternative for many parents as it keeps youngsters from dabbling in other devices and it is also a wholesome, proactive alternative to staying home all day with eyes glued to a device. Hurricane Sandy Demolished Rockaway Skatepark

The aftermath of hurricane Sandy is a heart wrecking sight in New York City as billions of dollars worth of properties leveled down and more than 30 lives taken away from their loved ones.

The devastation of hurricane Sandy is not only visible on the floating cars, empty sub-way stations, leveled homes and dark new york streets but also in the amusement parks and the Rockaway Skatepark was not spared with the super hurricane’s wrath.

Rockaway Skatepark is a fixture in the big city and graces the shorelines of Atlantic. It is situated at the Queen’s Rockaway Beach at 91st. It is one of the favorite places for sports activity and the go-to place for skateboarders living near the Atlantic coast and also from skateboarders around the big apple. The recreation park was established in 2004 by the American Ramp Company. It wasn’t the most high-end skate park in New York city but it boasts a 12,300 square foot area for park goers and skateboarders. It is also free and situated near the beach just like the recreation center of the boardwalk in New Jersey which was also damaged by the hurricane. There is a skateboard builder at CCS and build any new board the way you want to.

“Rockaway got wrecked,” 5boro Skateboards founder Steve Rodriguez told ESPN.com.

Rockaway Skatepark is supposed to undergo a major overhauling next year according to city officials and it will feature state-of-the-art facilities. Right now, the park and all other parks and amusement centers in New York is closed for safety reasons and no definite date yet has been released of its reopening schedule.
